Court heard that David Nsubuga Kikaawa, 39, was ‘motivated by jealousy’ and stabbed Keza to death ‘out for revenge’ days after she told lawyers that she was ‘petrified’ of him.

Keza, 29, was stabbed to death in her apartment in July last year after her estranged husband accessed her apartment using a spare key she had given him.

According to the prosecution led by QC Peter Finnigan, the deceased use to live with the suspect in Leyton, East London.

But on the night before she was stabbed, she had kicked him out of her house and was planning to change the locks to the house.

According to the Daily Mail website, jurors later heard from a witness how Keza screamed and begged a neighbour to kick the door down as she was stabbed to death.

The 'systems in place failed to prevent' the death of Ms Keza, who had been in contact with both the police and social services, the prosecutor Finnigan, told the court.

Finnigan said Gikawa drove from a bar where he had been drinking with friends to Keza’s flat where the ‘brutal stabbing’ took place.

During the trial, a witness Gideon Bello told the court that he heard shouts from within the flat and knocked on the door after hearing a young girl saying, ‘Leave my mummy alone.’

Bello said he then heard Keza shouting, ‘‘please kick down the door, please kick down the door.’ He said Kikaawa held her with his arm around her neck and another hand motioned as if he was hitting her.

Bloodstained, Kikaawa fled the scene after Bello challenged him. Keza had reportedly abandoned Kikaawa for new love.

After the separation, the suspect was ‘determined to prevent it’ claimed he would rather kill Keza and himself than see her go out with another person.
